I love long walks, summer sunsets, and my genius puppy Dodi. After having difficulty finding relatable Canadian Intended Parent resources, I was inspired to begin the Not My Tummy (But I’m Still Mummy!) blog to chronicle my journey towards parenthood through gestational surrogacy.

Nice to meet you, I’m Zane.

I love episodes of Jeopardy!, travel, and talking politics. There’s a shortage of ‘Dad bloggers’ out there, and even fewer who can discuss a man’s perspective in a fertility journey. I hope this space allows me to close that gap with a combination of candid storytelling and humour. You can also find me volunteering my time with Conceivable Dreams on their Board of Directors.

I’ve been fielding this question a lot lately and thought I’d dive in! It can be easy to assume that if a baby is born through surrogacy, the ONLY option for feeding that baby is formula - but that’s not actually true. Some parents by surrogacy induce lactation (I’m not a candidate so it’s not what we’ll be doing), but even beyond that there are plenty of options for bottle feeding a new baby breast milk. 🍼 At the end of the day, breast milk or formula, what matters is a well fed baby. It really is hard to believe. 😅 Thirty, flirty, and thriving 😘 10 weeks to due date!! We spent this weekend working on our baby name list while exploring Banff National Park. 🏔️ There’s something about looking at things much bigger than you to help you focus and gain perspective. Closing out week 28 with an OB appointment! 🩺 This list could go on FOREVER - the weird and wacky things people say to women pursing surrogacy! 🙄 This past week we did something that I wondered for a long time if we’d ever do - we took a ‘baby moon’. 🌙 🌴 We had an opportunity to pause and reflect for a moment as we hit the third trimester of our surrogacy journey. 13 weeks until Baby Colt’s due date!!! Do we think baby will be early, on time, or late? ⏰
